What we sell

Dahlia tubers are sold individually and guaranteed to have at least one eye; an example of a tuber is shown above. Some tubers may have ends cut to check for quality, remove a problem area or simply due to damage during harvest. Cut tubers perform the same as intact ones; some think that reducing tuber length can even speed up growth and rooting of a new plant.

Our growing practices

Our plants are grown conventionally (not organically) on two farm fields in upstate New York. We use integrated pest management program. We don’t have a U-pick program; all stems are harvested by the farmers using good sanitation practices. We sanitize snips between clumps when dividing. All plants with suspected viral diseases or gall are disposed of as soon as an issue is discovered.

A separate phytosanitary certificate will be provided for shipments destined for California free of charge.

Blind tuber refund: July 31st deadline

If a tuber fails to grow please dig in up and take pictures of crown area as well as a stamped name and send it to admin@beverly.farm for a refund to an original form of payment. The guarantee is valid until July 31st of the growing season.

Mislabel refund: September 30 deadline

If you find that the variety blooms differently than anticipated please take a picture of both blooms and leaves and send it to admin@beverly.farm for a refund to an original form of payment. We trust your word; please understand we are a small farm with very limited resources. We will also try to identify the variety for you. The guarantee is valid until September 30th of the growing season.

Tuber rot

We find that tuber rot is largely environmental, driven by growing conditions such as excessive soil moisture and low soil temperature. No refund will be provided for rotten tubers. Please note that on an average year the farmers here experience 10-15% field loss due to rot. We recommend to purchase tubers in multiples. When stock allows, we may provide an extra lower-grade tuber of the same variety if you ordered a single tuber.

Viral diseases and gall

These are difficult cases. By the time the issue is identified, the plant has grown at a location for several months. We know how frustrating it is to find your favorite plant to be diseased, but other factors outside of our control may have caused the issues. American Dahlia Society estimates that over 80% of all dahlia varieties are infected with viral diseases. In our experience, dormant viruses often "shows" in plants stressed by heat, lack of water or nutrients. We promptly cull all suspected plants but cannot guarantee virus-free stock.

No refunds will be provided for diseased plants, however feel free to yell at us by the email admin@beverly.farm; customer feedback is appreciated because it will help us identify possible sanitation lapses and issues with our own stock or suppliers.

Local pickup

Local pickup is available by appointment in April and May. Please email admin@beverly.farm to arrange it and we will refund shipping charges. The farm office is located in Saratoga County in the town of Malta, exit 11 off the Northway; a detailed address and directions will be in the email.
